Australian Aboriginal Culture & Didgeridoo News and Articles:
A tribute to Cathy Freeman.
(As Cathy Freeman headed to Olympic glory, Australia stood united behind a true champion.

A champion of achievement and a champion of commitment to reconciliation
representing a model for young Australians,
Cathy with the warmth of her personality, lack of pretention, down-to-earth charm showed a public grace and dignity.
When she controversially picked up both the Aboriginal and Australian flags for her victory lap at the Commonwealth Games
in Canada in 1994, she gave the nation an enduring symbol of reconciliation.
This was no demonstration of vacuous rebelliousness. This was a statement of pride
in being both Aboriginal and Australian.
It showed that these emotions need not to be in conflict. Although this was an intensely personal statement, it also carried a
powerful message of harmony to a nation struggling to achieve reconciliation.
We are all saddened by her decision to end her active sporting career, but her remarkable achievements and couragous
stand for her people carry a message of hope and a great example to follow for Aboriginal youths.
